Sustainability
Central Queensland has wonderfully diverse landscapes, from the beautiful Whitsunday Islands, to the dramatic gorges of the Carnarvon Ranges. Each has a interesting story to tell, rooted in ancient events.

This book explains how the scenery of central Queensland’s national parks gradually developed over many millions of years.

It groups parks with a similar history, and describes the origins and landscapes of each. It tells of places where you can see the rocks and landscapes along roads and walking tracks. The clear non-technical treatment makes the book a must for all park visitors, tourists, and bushwalkers, as well as teachers and students.

All the main parks, and some interesting smaller ones, from Bundaberg to Proserpine and inland to the Central Highlands are covered. It follows from a previous volume on the parks of Southern Queensland published in 2004. There is also a simple up-to-date summary of the geological history of central Queensland which is not readily available elsewhere.

Warwick Willmott is a geologist who worked with the Geological Survey of Queensland in a variety of fields. He likes to bring geology to the public, and has written other Rocks and Landscapes books, given talks and guided public excursions.
