Art Book

Margaret Worthington, born in Johannesburg in 1950, is one of Queensland's outstanding artists - a designer, painter and sculptor whose work explores Australian wildlife and environments as well as local histories and industry and places abroad. Her works are to be found in private and public collections in Australia, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States. Her major commissions include a sculptural facade in steel and aluminium for the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum, as well as installations for CQUniversity, a mixed media mural for the Hinkler Hall of Aviation and large-scale outdoor sculptures in wood and metal throughout central Queensland.

This book and accompanying exhibition celebrate Margaret Worthington's 70th birthday and focus on the work she has produced in Queensland, where she has lived for over forty years. After sailing around the world for four years, she arrived in Gladstone, central Queensland in 1976 and has lived and worked in this region ever since.

A thoughtful, versatile and inventive artist, Margaret Worthington's work is often a medium of social engagement. Appealing to look at and exulting in the beauty and awesome power of nature, her art entertains as it educates viewers and conveys messages about humanity's duty to conserve both natural and man-made environments.

This superbly illustrated book is the first major study devoted to Margaret Worthington's art and provides a fine overview of the extensive corpus of her work in many themes and mediums over the past forty years and the intellectual processes which underlie her creative endeavour.
